Cells in tissues are structurally and functionally integrated with their surrounding extracellular matrix (ECM) via numerous dynamic connections mediated through adhesins on cell surface and ECM proteins like laminins, fibronectin, collagen, fibrillin, etc. Galectins have been strongly implicated in inflammation and cancer. Fourteen of these molecules have been identified till now although a study proposes that there maybe upto 20 galectins found in humans. A combination of bioinformatics and structural studies on new galectins will help us be identify and their roles in structure-function activities.

III. Research Projects :

  • Genome analysis for identification of Virulence factors from tropical pathogens and their cloning, expression, 3-D structure solution through X-ray crystallography and mechanistic studies.
